OLD MASTERS AND YOUNG GENIUSES: AN INSIGHT INTO VIETNAMESE CONTEMPORARY ART

Vietnamese artists have successfully managed to find an identity over the course of centuries, synthesizing European post-impressionist trends with classical Asian style and subjects. As a result, Vietnamese art has thrived, maintaining a uniqueness that is invigorating the global art scene. This exhibition takes the audience on a compelling journey through Vietnamese art, starting with works of old masters like Nguyen Lam and Bui Huu Hung. Nguyen Lam connects with his intuitive self to reveal the hidden imagery of his subconscious, resulting in powerful abstract creations. Bui Huu Hung’s grand yet intimate masterpieces depicting regal women of the court showcases his masterful rejuvenation of the traditional Vietnamese art of lacquer painting. Young genius Bui Van Hoan boldly diversifies contemporary art while embracing a variety of different mediums and techniques. Hoan creates breath-taking pieces through his ingenious manipulation of light. Combined with his use of aerial perspective and adept concealment of brushstrokes, the resulting painting is one that evokes a meditative silence and tranquillity.
