FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Members, I hope you had a wonderful first quar ter of the year – time sure flies! Thank you for your continued trust and suppor t for the General Committee (GC) and The American Club. It is really my greatest honor and pleasure to be appointed as your President. A little introduction about me, I completed my Bachelor and MBA in Wisconsin before moving to Philadelphia to star t my career in banking. Fast forward to 1995, my beautiful wife (from Iowa), my amazing daughter and I moved to Singapore and joined The American Club. The rest was history. Since then, I’ve served on the Golf Committee and am presently on the Social and Dining Committee as their Chair. I’ve worked in the banking industry in U.S., Europe, and Singapore, in par ticular, with Citibank for the greater par t of my career. After which I ran a fund management company. Most recently I have been involved with various star t-ups in the exciting tech space. I also owned Italian restaurants in the past and taught finance at university. I continue to love golf and tennis, and play plenty of the latter inThe Club (our cour ts are amazing!). If you see me in The Club, please let's grab a cuppa and chat. Moving forward, the General Committee’s focus for 2021 is to look at a long-range financial plan to budget for operations, growth and renewal for The Club; a seamless Club-wide I.T. system (including a mobile app), strategic planning; ways on how to improve The Club services and offerings; and, not forgetting, valuing and developing our staff to grow together.

That said, I am excited to lead the Club with these three philosophies that I hold dear to: team work (yes, we do achieve more together), Members-first (your opinions and feedback are impor tant), and, most impor tantly, transparency. Using these three as the pillars for my tenure as President, I am confident that our beloved Club will be a safe and welcoming space for everyone; truly our home away from home.

Stay safe and wishing all of you a lovely month ahead,

Nasir A Kausar President

1 THE AMERICAN CLUB SINGAPORE

FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

Dear Members, I am pleased to share that The Club has recently recorded a modest, year-to-date operating profit, through spending at The Club, improved control of costs and new Memberships. Please do continue to suppor t us in our endeavors for new Member referrals as Membership is the lifeblood of our business, and joining fees as well as monthly dues contribute significantly to The Club’s reserves and cash flow.

I’d like to thank all of you who have taken par t in our Member Satisfaction Survey. Your feedback and input is impor tant during this process to ensure that we end up with a club that we both enjoy and are proud of. We’ve read through every comments and are proactively working on how to make the spaces more enjoyable for you, as well as enhance our working environments to make our services more efficient. This has also given us a well-rounded picture of how we can be improved or changed. In light of the recent COVID-19 Advisory updates, we will need to suspend our favorite Sunday program, the pool inflatables, until fur ther notice. Please do note of the latest changes in The Club (on page 8) - thank you for your cooperation and understanding. The General Committee have commenced their Strategic Planning process to define our mission and vision, horizon gaze the future and reflect on the past. Stay tuned for the next stage of Member consultation. Meanwhile, stay positive and test negative.

Sincerely,

Rick Coate General Manager

Some of our top picks include Bollywood Veggies, one of the most famous farms in Singapore where you can go produce-picking, and experience a unique farm-to-table dining experience. Your kids will have a ‘milking’ good time at Hay Dairies Goat Farm, Singapore’s only goat farm, where they will get the chance to pet and feed the goats and get a taste of freshly-squeezed goat’s milk. Last but not least, step into nature’s classroom at Citizen Farm where the little ones can get their hands dir ty by becoming gardeners for the day and planting their favourite seeds. TIMELESS TRADITIONS If you are lucky enough to be living in the same household as your mom or can visit her at her residence, why not treat her to a day of pampering? Breakfast in Bed Let mom sleep in and surprise her with the classic breakfast in bed. Waking up to fresh coffee (or tea) and pancakes ser ved right to her bedside? Which mom wouldn’t want that! Spa Day Show mom a little TLC by treating her to one of sên Spa’s many luxurious wellness ser vices ranging from massages, facials, hair care treatments, mani & pedi, scrubs, wraps and more. You’ll not only get some quality bonding time with mom, both of you get to enjoy some much needed me- time as well.

Treat Mom to a Sumptuous Meal Bring mom and the whole family down to The Club for our Mother’s Day Brunch at Galbraith Ballroom. Planning on dining at home instead? Our takeaway Mother’s Day Brunch Bundle has got you covered. Hollywood at Home End the day by rounding up the whole family, cozying up with mom on the couch and watching a movie marathon. Family Trivia Night Mother’s Day is the perfect occasion to round up the whole family and hop on a video call to celebrate mom. Create questions that tests your family members’ knowledge of their special lady. For example, what is mom’s favorite food? What is mom’s pet peeve? Where is mom’s favorite holiday destination? This is a fun way to show mom love and appreciation and bring the family even closer. Virtual Cooking Session Have a family recipe that you can’t seem to get right? Well now’s the time to put on your chef ’s hat and jump on a video call with mom to get her to teach you (and perfect it in time for Father’s Day on June 20). This makes for a perfect mother-daughter bonding session.

Record a Video Card Unable to wish mom a Happy Mother’s Day in person? No worries for in this day and age, smar t phones have made it easier than ever to record special moments and messages that mom can keep forever. Why not include a slideshow that highlights all of the major family memories through the years as well, taking her on a vir tual trip down memor y lane. Send a Mother’s Day Basket This is a great oppor tunity to package a bunch of self-care items to send to mom via The Club’s overseas courier ser vice at Essentials. Grab a bottle of fine wine from The Gourmet Pantr y, some scented candles, her favorite snacks and handwritten notes/drawings from you and the kids to create a nice basket that’ll be delivered right to her door step. NEW NORMS Thankfully we live in the age of technology, allowing us to have shared experiences with mom even if she’s thousands of miles away from you. Here’s what you can do to still spend some vir tual time with mom and make her feel special.

LOOKING BACK Though many of us would probably prefer not to look back at 2020, surprisingly we still managed to have some positive wins! We launched the HEAL Speaker Series and kicked off the first (and only) in-person event, presentation, and Q&A with Dr. Steven Tucker (oncologist), who covered the basics of nutrition at the Nutrition 101 event in Februar y 2020. With more Members attending the event than we had expected, we felt encouraged to continue. However, given the pandemic, we did as the rest of the world did, and moved the subsequent events online with Zoom – one even while we were locked down during Circuit Breaker! In case you missed them, the topics were: • Gluten Free & Celiac (May 2020) "Ask Me Anything" panel discussion with Dr. Brian Schwender (gastroenterologist), Bridget Marr (dietician), Karen Horan (celiac advocate) and Dr. Steven Tucker in May 2020 • Pandemic Parenting: Kids, Teens & Zoom (September 2020) presentation and Q&A with Dr. Roby Marcou (behavioral pediatrician) and Dr. Steven Tucker • Fasting For Health (November 2020) "Ask Me Anything" panel discussion with Kar thika Thirugannan (dietician), Nadesh Rathakrishnan (TAC trainer), Nasir Kausar (fasting advocate) and Dr. Steven Tucker And in 2021, we’ve hosted the following webinars (so far): • Personalized Nutrition (February 2021) presentation and Q&A with Dr. Steven Tucker, Kelly Tan Peterson (nutritionist and Keto coach), Riyana Rupani (nutritionist and Whole30 coach) and Matt Dear th (Keto advocate) • The True Cost of our Food Choices on our Health and Planet (April 2021) presentation and Q&A with filmmaker Rebecca Cappelli (sustainability & plant-based exper t) In conjunction with the events and webinars, you may have also noticed a shift in some of the food as well – which aligns the food offerings at The Club with Members’ feedback from our HEAL sur vey in 2019. We have elevated the vegetarian and vegan dishes at many of the outlets, the ever- popular freshly prepared salad bowls were brought back at Central, and there are now more options and alternatives to starchy carbohydrates for those following a low-carb and/or Keto diet. Additionally, the F&B team have done an excellent job with their continuous improvement plans – significantly improving the food quality – by ar tisanally making many more dishes in-house such as the pickles, cheese sauces, chia pudding and so much more! A quick list of some of the things we’ve worked on over the last year: • Reduced sugar in the smoothies at Central & Tradewinds • Introduction of Bulletproof Coffee at Central

• Food icons on all outlet menus • Comprehensive ingredients list for all outlets • Introduction of gluten-free desser ts at Central and gluten-free or gluten-light alternatives at Tradewinds • Introduction of low carb alternatives for rice, noodles, and bread at Tradewinds such as lettuce wraps for burgers, cauliflower rice, spiralized veggie noodles and cauliflower pizza crust • Introduction of keto snacks and desser ts at Central and keto compliant salad dressings and wraps at Tradewinds • Increased number of non-dairy milk options at the outlets • Freshly prepared salad bowls and mix-and-match salad ingredients at Central • Fresh whole fruit, single sized por tions for hard-boiled eggs & wraps as well as snack sized por tions for egg, tuna, and chicken salad at Central • Worked with F&B on to ensure the oil used for deep frying was sustainable and clean ON THE HORIZON We are thrilled to share more about our upcoming plans in 2021. First, we intend to continue with our webinars which will also integrate better with The Club’s promotions, product, and food offerings at the various F&B outlets and The Gourmet Pantry. We hope for Members to learn more about the different topics from our speakers and then be able to put that into practice in real life. Some other topics we plan to cover this year are the Wellness Series (covering techniques for Sleep, Culinary Wellness, Brain Health, Gratitude & Focus),The Gut Health Microbiome Series, Nutrition and Child Health and The Future of Health. Keep an eye out for those. Another goal of ours in 2021, is working towards more cross-club integration and collaboration with other committees whose interests overlap with ours – whether that be with Spor ts & Recreation, sên Spa, and Youth & Family to name a few. This could be as simple as helping M embers pair their dietary and fitness, wellness or kids/ family needs with customized menus or calling out cer tain dishes at the various outlets that would be compliant with their diet or lifestyle. We would like to provide innovative programs for Members that If you have any ideas or suggestions, please email HEAL at info@amclub.org.sg with “ Suggestions to HEAL ” in the subject line, we welcome all comments. We really do believe that our passionate group of Members interested in Healthy Eating Allergens and Living (HEAL) is continuing to grow and we want to nur ture this community. Thank you again for being a par t of our movement at The American Club! holistically address their specific circumstances. COMMUNITY BUILDING AND CONTINUOUS FEEDBACK

FEEDBACK: We spent 20 minutes in the queue just to get a cup of coffee. The waiting time is completely unacceptable and this isn’t good enough for a Club standard. Please do something about it. RESPONSE: Thank you for writing in about the long lines. We hear you! You can now skip the lines and get your caffeine fix fixed (pun intended) pronto with our new weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) Coffee Cart from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
