Choose the path that is best for you. As the only school in Singapore to offer the choice of A Levels or the IB Diploma in Sixth Form, Tanglin Trust School students can thrive and flourish by studying the programme that most suits them; either the specialist study of three to four subjects or a broad and balanced programme of six subjects. Our students’ examination results are outstanding, consistently surpassing Singapore and global averages, with 95% of graduates typically receiving their first or second choice university, which are among the best in the world. But that’s not the full story. Going to school is also about developing a community of lifelong learners, whether it be through sports, the arts, outdoor education or the multitude of other opportunities students embrace. PRESIDENT FROMTHE

Dear Members,

Happy 2023 and Happy Lunar New Year!

While the search for the new General Manager is underway, our Director of Food & Beverage, Dan Durkin, has been appointed as the Club’s Acting General Manager effective February 1, 2023. Please join me in welcoming Dan into the role, and don’t hesitate to say “hi” when you see him around the Club. Moving forward, the Team’s key priority is taking the Club from a good Club, to a great Club. This includes always improving Member engagement and experiences, being more involved in community service, further improving our financial performance, and enhancing our Team Members’ well-being. From the Club celebrating its milestone 75th birthday, to recognizingMembers who have contributed to the local Singaporean community through the Community Service Awards, there is much to look forward in 2023. With that, I wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, prosperous and wonderful year ahead!

This year, we welcome the Year of the Rabbit – a year that will mark the return of many popular Club events in the first part of the year, like our daily Lo Hei Toss in the Lobby, my must-see favorite Super Bowl live screening, St. Patrick’s celebrations and Easter activities. Apart from these, you can expect to see many more social events coming your way throughout the year. In Chinese culture, rabbits are said to be kind, calm, and optimistic creatures. As we return to normalcy, I would like to draw from the characteristics of the rabbit and take this opportunity to thank our amazing Team Members who helped power the Club through what may have been some of the toughest times in our Club’s history. We thank all Members for your cooperation, patience and loyalty. The New Year also brings new challenges. I’d like to give special recognition to our General Manager, Rick Coate, who as you may now know, will depart Singapore and the Club on February 10, 2023. Let us all say a big “thank you!” to Rick for over two years of dedicated service to our Club and community.

NEW BEGINNINGS ON THE LITTLE RED DOT Nicole Schmidt & Family

child-friendly amenities and activities, a warm and welcoming community, and a short stroll from their residence in Orchard. Just two weeks later, Nicole and James joined the Club as Members. The timing couldn’t have beenmore perfect, as Nicole had to travel to Australia for work, and had to find something to keep her husband and son busy. “The Quad was an absolute life-saver for my husband. As Hudson wasn’t in school yet, James was able to leave him in the good hands of the staff at Quad Poolside while he worked on his laptop at Thinkspace and squeezed in a quick work out at the Gym.” Fast forward to July 2022, Nicole and James welcomed their daughter Harper, who was born at Thomson Medical Centre in Singapore. Not long after, the couple were introduced by a mutual friend to other families who were also Members of the Club. Nicole fondly remembers sitting at Grillhouse and chatting away with them for hours, while their kids happily splashed about in the pool. “Those families have all become like a part of our family ever since, and the Club has become like a second home for us,” quipped Nicole.

well-developed destination were important factors for them, as they would leave the United States as a family of three, and start their new lives in Singapore as a family of four. Unlike Nicole, James and then three-year-old Hudson had never been to Singapore. The first time that they step foot on the sunny island was the day they officially relocated here in April 2022. Being six months pregnant with a toddler in tow and not having any family around felt daunting for the Schmidt family at first. However, the family had the opportunity to visit the Club shortly after their arrival in Singapore, and immediately knew it was the perfect fit for their family – plenty of

Originally from the Big Apple, Club Member Nicole Schmidt and her husband James moved to Fairfield, Connecticut over 10 years ago where the couple had their first child Hudson, and purchased their forever home. Or so they thought. In early 2022, an opportunity came knocking for Nicole to help the company she is working for, a premier asset management firm, to lead the establishment of its Singapore office. As a frequent traveller to Singapore and the region for work, Nicole knew that the Little Red Dot would be a great place to live in for an expat, and an ever better place to raise a family. TEAM MEMBERS SPOTLIGHT

Powered by our People

The success and growth of the Club over the years is not without the contribution of its most valuable asset - its people. One thing that makes the Club stand out from other employers is its strong familial culture and shining One Club, One Team spirit. In this issue of On Eagle’s Wings, we asked five Team Members to share what motivates them to do their best at work everyday.

Hariz

Senior Front Office Executive Janice

Assistant Aquatics Coach & Co-ordinator

Providing superior customer experience is my passion, which is why I am so inspired to give my best at work every day. Seeing the smiles of everyone in the Club gives me a sense of fulfillment. Making a difference in the lives of everyone is so motivating. You can feel the love and appreciation of everyone, especially the Members. Giving my best at all times comes naturally to me because the Club feels like my home away from home.

The huge smiles and genuine excitement every time a kid sees the pool always make my day. To see families come together and have a meal at Grillhouse while happily watching their kids H aving a splashing good time in the pool feels very fulfilling. As for the Senior Swim Squad, seeing them train day in and day out passionately with Coach Greg and I, and eventually compete with great results is just an immense feeling of accomplishment. Working at The AmericanClub has been a dream come true, and all my colleagues in the Aquatics team are super fun to be around. Putting aside the yelling and screaming from the little ones, I enjoy every second of being at work.”

Nicole

Assistant Restaurant Manager (Union Bar)

OCT 2022-OCT 2023 SG

2021 at The American Club! 2022 We are proud to work The American Club has been recognized as a Great Place to work for a second consecutive year. This prestigious award is based on our Team Members’ feedback gathered from Great Place to Work, the global authority on workplace culture and employee experience. The re-certification is a reaffirmation of the ethos of the Club – one that encompasses a One Club, One Team spirit, along with the values of excellence, inclusivity, collaboration and camaraderie. It is also a testament to our unique culture, robust professional development and commitment to employee recognition and appreciation.

I am thankful to the Club for giving me the opportunity to work across its various F&B outlets and departments - from the then Eagle’s Nest, Presidential Room, Thyme Cafe, Poolside, Banquet & Catering, and finally Union Bar. I have gained an immeasurable amount of knowledge and experience as a result. This pushed me to want to continue doingmy best, to further broadenmy horizon, and grow with the Club.

By doing my best every day, I ensure that my teamand colleagues that I work with need not take up additional tasks outside of their roles. It also allows me to put myself in a position whereby I can inspire others to do the same, to make work more enjoyable and improve the camaraderie among Team Members.
