I was at The Club and saw a little girl of about 2 years old went from the wading pool into the little pool and star ted to drown. Both her parents stood in front of her, somewhat paralyzed as to what to do. In the space of what felt like no more than 1 second, Yusri had clearly and extremely loudly blown his whistle to aler t the other guards at the same time as jumping into the pool to pull the little girl out. I don’t think she had even had time to swallow a mouthful of water. Any tears that followed were mostly from not understanding what had happened, but understanding that something wasn’t right as her parents were shaken. A job extremely well done. We cannot underestimate the impor tance of this job, and though 95% of the time, thankfully nothing happens, in that 5% of the time when something does, it is really really reassuring to know and see how aler t the lifeguards are and how seriously they take their jobs. The biggest surprise to me, was to see this little girl in distress with both her parents watching her, and both too paralyzed with shock to help, showing us that it is critical that as many eyes as possible are on those swimming. You never know when an accident might happen. A job impressively, and extremely well done,Yusri.

RESPONSE : Thank you so much for your compliment. Our team of lifeguards take their job very seriously, and The Club sends the lifeguards for regular training. The safety of our Members is of the utmost impor tance, and our lifeguards are always ready to jump into action at a moment’s notice! To prevent these situations from happening in future, consider sending your child to our Learn-to-Swim program. Additionally, it is good for helpers (who spend a fair amount of time with kids) to take par t in our Water Safety and Awareness Course to equip them with basic first aid and CPR/AED skills, and learn how to identify dangers around the water. We want our little Members to be safe even when they are not at The Club!

We want to hear from you! Email your feedback to info@amclub.org.sg. Your comments may be published in subsequent issues of our magazine.
