THE YIDOJANG COMMUNITY IS MORE LIKE FAMILY, ANDTHAT IS GREATLY ATTRIBUTEDTO MASTER PATRICK AND HIS DEDICATION TOTHE PROGRAM. In fact, many of us view Master Patrick as another father figure in our lives. He deeply cares for each and every one of us, and is invested in helping every single student of his grow, both as an athlete and as a person.Years after some of us moved away, he continues to reach out and check on us, and we always visit him when we get the chance to return back to Singapore. When I moved back to Los Angeles, I continued taekwondo at a new dojang. It was clear from the beginning that I would never have another instructor like Master Patrick. He and the entire instructing team at Yidojang are truly one of a kind.This remains clear to me, and other Yidojang students, to this day. A little over a month ago, I spent some time with one of my friends that I met through taekwondo. We both happened to move to Los Angeles from Singapore at the same time, and have remained close friends since the day we met almost 10 years ago. The two of us, as well as my brother and a few of Master Patrick’s other students that we still stay in touch with, vehemently agreed on the fact that we would not be the people we are today without Master Patrick’s guidance and care. He is an incredible mentor, and my time as a member of the Yidojang family is something I will never take for granted. I am constantly reminiscent of the good times, as well as the tough times, because without them I don’t know who I would be today.Taekwondo and the Yidojang family were, are, and will forever be a part of my identity, and I’m proud to say that I was a part of something so special.
