Did You Know? Age comes with its own set of challenges at the workplace, and with the re-employment age in Singapore recently being extended to 67 years, The Club was pressed to find ways to help our mature workers cope on the job. With the help of WorkPro, a tripartite scheme, we were pleased to embark on job redesign in two areas to benefit our older staff in the kitchen, and help them remain productive. SALAD DRYING Previously, manually drying salads took up nearly two hours of our kitchen team’s time daily. The physical and repetitive task of spinning salads weighing approximately 20kg was a heavy load for our mature staff, and a recipe for back injury over time. The salad drying process is now automated – salad-spinning is done in 10 minutes, relieving our team of the burden of manual spinning. MEAT PATTY MAKING In the past, our culinary team made meat patties by hand daily, producing 240 patties per hour. Now, our patty forming machine has enabled our older cooks to produce up to 1,200 patties per hour, increasing output and enabling them to cope with increased demand.

With these changes, The Club has been able to channel productivity savings into annual increments for some 250 staff, ranging from $31 to $121 per month.
