Fall 2022 On Eagle's Wings

C ool, crisp breeze, the smell of trees and leaves, pumpkin sightings, back to school - fall is in full swing. From the hustle and bustle of summer, we’re ready to slow down and enjoy what the season has to offer. Looking forward to many festivities this quarter starting off with Singapore National Day, followed by the Club’s 74th Birthday Bash, Oktoberfest, Canadian and American Thanksgiving, Halloween and Deepavali. It’s a time marked with tasty food, good drinks, traditions and celebrations.

Dear Members,

Second, as mentioned, our Redevelopment Project was completed by 2020. However, given our “survival mode” with COVID-19, no official building dedication was ever held. U.S. Ambassador Kaplan has recognized this and has agreed to officiate at our building dedication in September. We’ll check that box soon! Third, our internal systems, including our website, have been operating at an “end-of- life” mode. With that said, we are excited to have launched our brand-newClubwebsite and hope that you’ll enjoy exploring the site as much as I did. More technological enhancements such as the new Member Portal and point-of-sale system are in the works, and will be coming your way soon. Lastly, COVID-19 restrictions permitting, planning will continue for many “big tent” events including our annual Volunteer Appreciation, the Club’s Annual Birthday Bash, Canadian & American Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Lunar New Year’s and Super Bowl. Look out for these event dates to be announced soon. The Club's Fall and Winter events have always been our family's favorites and very meaningful. We'll make special arrangements to be in Singapore and we hope that you'll join us for a glass of wine or holiday eggnog at the celebrations, and sing along to a carol or two in the Lobby.

Pumpkin Chocolate Tart. The decadent Butterscotch Coffee Creamer will sure amp up the calories but sure to warm your tummy and heart.

For many Members in Singapore and those who are traveling, summer is winding down and we’re looking ahead. REFLECTIONS Over the last few years, the Club has experienced change. A massive Redevelopment Project was implemented lasting several years. It involved the construction of a new Scotts Road building and remodelling every touch point in our Claymore Hill building. Though the project was completed by 2020, global volatility was a challenge as we were hit with a global pandemic, natural disasters and geopolitical uncertainties. We still mourn those who were unexpectedly taken from us. The world, Singapore and the Club, are still coping with COVID-19 surges, supply chain disruptions, unrelenting inflation and effects of a faraway war. The Club has navigated successfully all of these challenges and can look back with confidence and pride. One key measurement of our resilience is our membership, whichhas grown toover 3,500 compared to 3,300 during the same period last year, despite all of the challenges. OPTIMISM What can we look forward to? Many things, and with optimism! First, our co-leads of the Strategic Planning Committee, Mathew and Nasir, will join me no later than September when we share our Vision 2030 at our GC Meet and Greet with Members.

74th Birthday Bash Logo

It’s time to party like a rockstar as the Club turns 74 this September. Two years after the refurbishment, let’s raise our glasses for a building dedication on September 16. Join Eli, the Club’s mascot, as he leads the celebration with a series of events for the whole family. From delectable food and drinks to a rock concert, get ready to let your hair down and party like the rockstar that you are. Fall is my favorite season. It’s a time of transition, a shift in gears f rom hectic to unhurried, f rom active to leisurely, f rom distracted to focused. And it’s just the perfect time for introspection, to take stock of the months passed and make plans to make the year a memorable one.
